Departing Perth, we will make our way to the diverse woodlands and forest of the Darling Escarpment. Generally we will start in the Jarrah and Marri Forest searching for Baudin’s and Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo, Red-capped Parrot, Western Spinebill, Gilbert’s Honeyeater and Western Wattlebird.
As we move further through the forest we will look for Western Thornbill, Golden (Western) Whistler and Western Yellow Robin. The gullies and creeklines are home to futher endemics such as Western Rosella, Red-winged Fairywren, White-breasted Robin and Red-eared Firetail.
Time permitting, we will head a bit further afield for into the Wandoo Woodlands for Western Shrike-tit and Rufous Treecreeper among much more and then into the edges of the Wheatbelt to look for Western Corella. This is the majority of the Southwest endemics and all that can be found in the greater Perth area.
With plenty of time to spare throughout the rest of the day, we can target any of the specialties of the Perth region such as Southern Emuwren, Purple-backed Fairywren and White-winged Fairywren. Oriental Honey-Buzzard may be of interest to keen Australian listers and the wetlands that make up the Swan Coastal Plain are exceptional for a wide variety of Australian Waterbirds and local passerines.

On the coast we will aim to find Rock Parrots, Splendid Fairywren, Spotted Scrubwren, Southern Emuwren, Hooded Plover and Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo.
In the Karri forest we will look for Baudin’s Black Cockatoo, Red-capped Parrot, Western Rosella, Regent Parrot, Gilbert’s Honeyeater, Red-winged Fairywren, White-breasted Robin, Western Shrike-tit, Rufous Treecreeper and Red-eared Firetail.
As we move into drier Jarrah and Marri forests we will target Western Thornbill, Western Spinebill, Western Yellow Robin and Golden (Western Whistler).
With plenty of time to spare throughout the rest of the day, we can target any of the specialties of the Margaret River region such as Square-tailed Kite, Splendid Fairywren, Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, Purple-crowned Lorikeet, Spotted Pardalote and Rufous Treecreeper.
The coast and beaches provide us with unique opportunities to seawatch some pelagic birds such as Flesh-footed Shearwater and Shy Albatross, seabirds such as Bridled Tern and Australasian Gannet as well as shorebirds like Sanderling and Red-capped Plover.
The Vasse-Wonnerup system also offers a massive variety of waterbirds and shorebirds to see with any of the remaining time.

Broome is one of the highlights of Australian Birding and is a must visit destination for any keen Australian or International Birdwatcher. Single day or short-multi day trips are available return from Broome.
Known for its shorebird population in Roebuck Bay, we will target the standouts of this group for the region - Common Redshank, Asian Dowitcher and Tibetan Sand-Plover. Other important species on the Roebuck Bay roosts may include Broad-billed Sandpiper or Pacific Golden Plover but almost every shorebird that has ever visited Australia has shown up in the Broome area at some point including some of the very rarest such as Nordmann’s Greenshank. Not to mention the abundance of Tern species.
The plains and wetlands found just inland from the bay are home to another subset of freshwater shorebirds at the right time of year including Long-toed Stint, Pectoral Sandpiper and Oriental Pratincole. Little Curlew and Oriental Plover can be seen on the plains and parks nearby. It is also possible to see Yellow Chat, Brolga and Australian Grass-Owl on these plains.
The mangroves are another highlight of the Broome Region with Dusky Gerygone, a Western Australian endemic, being a highlight. White-breasted Whistler, Mangrove Golden Whistler, Mangrove Grey Fantail, Red-headed Honeyeater, Broad-billed Flycatcher and Little Heron make up the remainder of the highlights.
A short trip up the cape from Broome will further show the Broome regions worthiness as a birding mecca. Rose-crowned Fruit Dove and Mangrove Robin can be found readily as well as Great-billed Heron just a littler further out. On land, amongst the tall grasses, Gouldian Finch alongside a large subset of other Australian Finch species can be seen coming to water while Chestnut-backed Buttonquail skulk around the bases of those grasses.
